  • Not sure whether Visa was issued/rejected

My parents recently appeared for the interview @ the Chennai consulate for the tourist visa on Monday(Nov 28) and were asked only few basic questions. However, at the end of the interview they were just told "you may go now" without being explicitly told whether or not their visa was issued/rejected. As they weren't too sure whether it would be a good idea to directly ask the interviewer the question, they just left. Now it's Saturday(Dec3) today and they haven't yet received the passports and I'm getting a little anxious and worried.

Has anyone encountered a similar situation before? If so, would appreciate your feedback on the same.

P.S: The online tracker says "Your passport has not yet been received by VFS.....Pls contact toll free number..."

    Hi!

    Hi!
Did your parents pay the visa assurance fees? They have to pay that only if the visa is granted.

Also they return the passports imm. in person if the visa is rejected. Since they did return the passports I assume that they have granted the visa.

Thanks Sonujan. Yes, the visa issuance DD was submitted.

Are you absolutely sure that the passports get returned at the consulate itself if the visa is rejected? I thought so too, but wasn't sure if things had changed with the new rules effective Oct 4.

        Hi!

        Hi!
If the visa was rejected they will not ask you to pay the visa assurance DD (i eteh 2000+ amt DD). If they have paid that amt you need not worry. They have been issued the visa.

I guess they will receive the passports with the US visa at their residence as for my parents who just received their visa 2 days back were not told to go and pay the visa issuance fees ..The CO...had the dd with her and told my parents that they would get the passport in 2-3 days
When i Checked on th system the next day ..it showed me the same meessage which you got for your parents.....so dont worry...they willl get the visa i guess..

                  Hi!

                  Hi!
Were you sponsoring the trip or was it self sponsered?

If you were sponsering the trip I think you had to tell them that they were visiting you and for tourisim purposes.

Then when asked for travel documents they could have showed the Affidavit of support, you inivitation and mention that they are eagerly waiting for the visa to be aprroved and once approved they plan to book their tickets. And just mention a intitive date for travel.

Infact for my mil when she went we had sent her an itenary too. We had not booked teh tickets but just blocked and out an itenary. But when my parents went they went without an itenary too and just mentioned that they were waiting for the visa and would book once it was issued.
