  • Submitted DS-160 Correcttions (B2 Visa)

Hi, I am new to this site and hoping to get some questions answered from experienced folks around here.
    The Situation is as follows:
Applicant: My mother (Age 64, Indian, widow, no prior international travel), applying for US B2 visitor visa.
Problem1: Failed to declare presence of her brother in DS-160. Brother is naturalized citizen.
Problem2: Declared tentative dates for travel too soon (Jan 22nd). If she gets visa, most likely to visit in June, not Jan 2015.
Application Status: DS-160 submitted. Interview date scheduled for 14th Jan.

Not declaring her brother in the form makes me nervous and I would like to fix this, even if it means canceling the current submitted DS-160 form and submitting a fresh one. I have the following questions / apprehensions:

    1. Is there any disadvantage of cancelling the submitted DS-160, and filling a fresh DS-160? I understand this will generate a new bar code and she may have to carry both DS-160s (old and new) to the interview. Would you think this automatically prejudices the visa officer against her in any way?

    2. If I do submit a fresh DS-160, will the system allow me to update her tentative travel dates as well? I know this is not a very critical item, but I would like to be as accurate in all items as possible. A few links on the web suggested that once DS-160 is submitted, upon cancelling, all items can be corrected except the travel dates. Is this correct?

    3. I will probably have to cancel the interview apt, which is in 6 days time. I would prefer to take it a little slower, thoroughly review her application myself before final submission. I believe applicants are allowed to reschedule appt once per fee payment. When I cancel the existing appt, does the system force me to pick a new date at the same time, or can I return to the system after completing the fresh DS-160?

    Thank you for your help.

    Gratefully,
    Raman

    Application common mistakes:

Some things to think about carefully when you apply for a visa: make sure you fill out the DS-160 application carefully, completely, and honestly. And make sure your passport is not going to expire in less than 6 months after the time you enter the United States.

Please bear in mind that your application, DS-160 which you have electronically signed and submitted already on-line is the basic tools to examine the applicant's qualification mainly, and I always recommend to all applicants for a thorough review before submission because as per section 291 of INA places the burden of proof for a non-immigrant intent on the applicant's shoulder.

I suggest you that while you are fully aware of your mistakes then do not attempt for the correction. All you need to verbally inform to the designated consular officer about the mistakes precisely and accept with the apology. I believe he or she will like your honest attitude and ignore your mistakes but be prepared for the visa refusal if you do not qualify for the B2 visa.

    Good luck
