Hi Immihelp advisors, and all the members,
At the outset, I would like to thank you all for this useful service. I am facing a unique and a little complicated situation here and hoping to get it cleared with all your help.
Some background:
I am a graduate student (F-1 visa) without funding in All But Dissertation stage. My husband is only recently employed, so he is not in a position to become a full sponsor for my parents' visitor visa financial requirements. I have requested my parents to self-sponsor themselves for their brief visit. This is their first visit to the US and their interview is scheduled in March 2015.
I have a few questions pertaining to my case and would be great to have your views on them:
1) Is it possible to become a secondary sponsor for a B2 visa for specific purposes like stay/food/travel within the US?
2) If the answer to the first question is yes, then what are all the paperwork involved in this particular scenario?
3) I will be sending a university invitation letter from my institution. Would that be all from my side for documentation apart from the passport pages (visa, personal details etc)?
4) Because we both are not sponsoring, will this go against my parents' visa stamping?
5) Will the lack of funding for graduate studies in my case be a negative point for them?
6) Should I send my I-20 for their interview?
Thank you in advance.
