Current and Old passports for B2 visa interview

Hi

My parents are attending their B2 visa interview tomorrow.. Just discovered that my father only has his latest and valid passport with him. His previous passport, was cancelled within a week of its issuance due to a spelling mistake in the name. He forgot to take the cancelled passport with him and the new passport has a reference to the old passport in it.

Has anyone faced a similar situation before? Is it wise to inform the consulate folks before the interview about this cancelled passport? Or is it not a big deal at all? Please advise..

I'm not sure, if it is must for the interview but
I personally feel, it's better to carry both.

You may call them once and make sure, so that your parents can focus on interview without any worries.
