  • Tourist visa for parents if student has already graduated officially

    Hi,

I am currently on F1 visa, in my OPT unemployment period. I officially graduated from a Californian University in Dec, 2014 but the graduation ceremony is going to be held in June, 2015. I want to invite my parents for the graduation ceremony. I don't have a job offer letter yet but I am sure I will have one by May, 2015. At this point, I am worried about my parent's visa interview. If the interviewer asks them what is your daughter doing in US after officially graduating, they don't have an answer. Since I currently don't have a job offer and I am also officially not a student, I am wondering this question might affect the chances of obtaining the visa. Any suggestions on this would be of great help.
    Thanks!

There is a reason why it's called OPT. It enhances your learning experience with the training.

As for your question, I highly doubt that it's main concern for the Visa Officer. What they really want to know is your what is your parent's intention and whether they are going to return back to their home country. The Visa Officer is required by a US law to assume that your parents are going to immigrate to the United States. The burden is on your parent's to prove otherwise. Your parent's need to show strong ties to their country which could be any or all of the following:

    1. Other children
    2. Own house and property
    3. Employment or business
    4. Strong financial condition

If the Visa Officer asks about your status in USA, they should tell the truth in the following words, "She completed her graduation and is looking forward to enhance her learning experience with the practical training."

Stay positive and teach your parents to remain confident during the interview.

    Good luck!
