Immigration officer says visa is cancelled...but

Please i am confused,

at a poe, after heavy interogation, the immigration officer verbally said that our visas are cancelled and that he is giving us only one month to exit the usa. He did not give us any paperwork nor did we sign any document...he just said that and gave us our passports.

However, when we opened our passports, we realised that he stamped us in for 6 months and that the visa is not cancelled.

We are confused,

what do you advise us to do?
