  • B2 Visa approved but the case is under Administrative Processing 221(g)

I appeared at the Mumbai consulate on 12th March 2015 for my B2 Visa along with my wife, who also applied for her B2 visa.
The visa interview lasted for just about a minute and the visa officer said that both our visas are approved.

My wife received the mail for collecting passport on March 13 and a similar message was received by me on March 16. I collected both the passports on March 17. However, I was surprised to see that the visa was issued only to my wife and in my case the passport was returned along with a white slip issued under section 221(g) of the U. S. Immigration and Nationality Act mentioning “This office will contact you via e-mail”. I then checked the visa status on the website and it shows that my visa case is under administrative processing (the message said "Your visa case is currently undergoing necessary administrative processing. This processing can take several weeks"). There is no change in status since 12 March 2015.

What could be the reason for this? Has anyone else seen such a status message after getting the visa approved? I was not given 221g slip at the time of interview and the passport was collected by the visa officer who clearly told me about the approval and didn't ask for any other documents. On the basis of words of visa officer I had booked non-refundable return flight tickets for New York

Is there something I could do to find out the cause, and get the visa processing expedited (assuming it is indeed stuck)? My date to visit US is 29th April 2015 and it has put me in a very tricky situation. Please advise.
