Applying for visitors Visa

Hi,

I would like to find out if we can apply for the visitor's visa in an embassy different from the state of living. I mean if they live in Andhra pradesh can they apply at Mumbai instead of chennai?

Its allowed only in special cases such as emergencies.

I am not too sure but think that it may not be allowed any more as Chennai Consulate itself has an dates for emergency appointments.

Applicants apply for visa in their own designated Consulates based on their residence. If applies in a different consulate they will be asked to go back to their local Cosulate.
