Hello Guys,

My immigration case is about to complete. I am just away to fill DS-260 form. Let me tell you very honestly my mother will be alone after I move to US. She is a widow and I want her to visit me once or twice in a year until I get US citizenship to apply for her green card. I don't want her to be illegal at any cost but just want my mom to get visa so she can travel time to time like pregnancy of my wife, important events etc etc.

What will be the best way to apply for her. When I am in the US and got residency? or she shouldn't show that her son is traveling to US and she is going to meet her brother or mother in law in the US?

Your sincere advice will be highly appreciated.

B visas are a tough sell.

She owns two flats and my younger sister lives here but she is married. Drawback is my mom is widow. However we have to try for her visa either of the two ways i have mentioned earlier.

Zain - Visitor visas are complicated, there is clear view on what basis approved / denied. My mom is also widow/ not educated, she owns 3 properties & good bank savings in Home Country - for years I did not apply for her visitor visa thinking it was straight denial case. In May 2015, I decided to take risk and prepared her for interview - she was approved in less than 30 seconds with no documents asked during interview.

I am certain of one fact though - your status will not affect parents visitor visa approval / denial (unless you're Illegal or Out of status).


Below is my experience with Mom visitor visa - hope this helps.

I want to share experience for Mom visitor visa. My mom is widow /housewife, not educated, also currently I am only kid. My father & sister passed away year back. Plus, I was sponsoring for my mom's trip.

Also, I was afraid she being not educated - will she able to answer correctly during interview. We decided to opt for Marathi language interview in Mumbai Consulate. I trained her on multiple different questions and how to answer those questions, also explained her body languages she should be aware of. Keep smiling through-out interview, maintain good tone while answering etc.

I drove her for Biometrics and day of interview & tagged along with her until she entered inside Consulate. I was really worried about her visitor visa denial after reading too many cases where people received multiple denials even after re-applying.

Interview was supposed to be in Marathi, but VO asked her if she is comfortable with Hindi. Interview proceeded in Hindi language.

VO did not ask her any documents & only asked 3 questions :
1. Her name, why she wants to visit US (To meet her kid & tourism)
2. What I do in US?
3. Which visa I am currently on in US?

She answered all 3 Qs properly and VO granted her visa.

If it helps anyone, below is list of documents my mom took along with her :
1. Passport, appointment confirmation, DS-160 confirmation
2. Compiled list of all liquid and immovable assets with bank letters (included savings & FD amount, LIC letter which included current surrender values) & Original properties paper
3. Copy of my passport, current visa, I-134 (affidavit of support), employment letter, recent paystubs

I opted to keep documents to minimum as possible to avoid confusion for her.

Financial ties in there home country is add on benefits. It's important to show how you will take care of her when she is in US. Age of the visa requestor plays the role as my parents were old and they wanted to visit there sons and daughters with grandsons.
My advise is to apply with no intention to over stay in US.. She can go back n forth while you get your citizenship. She will get the visa just be honest and true
