  • Parents visa rejected at Mumbai.

    Hi,

Yesterday my parents visa got rejected at Mumbai Consulate . The ques asked were

    Parents : Good Morning
    Visa officer :Good Morning

Visa officer : How many children's do you have ?
    Parents: 1 daughter & 2 sons

Visa officer : Who is in USA ?
    Parents: my daughter

Visa officer : What are your sons doing ?
Parents: One is lawyer & other has just finished his graduation & is unmarried,

Visa officer : What do you do ?
Father: I'm retired but my wife is still working.

After this Visa officer looked into his computer & within few seconds he said, Sorry I can't give you a visa, I feel you will not come back from USA. He did not listen a word after his statement.

The reason on the paper is 214(b)

    Officer was very young guy.

My Mom is a professor & still working, She had her leave sanction letter . my father is a retired teacher. My younger bro is unmarried. We asked only for 3 months .We took all the pain & prepared all possible documents with maximum affidavits. Officer didn't even ask for a single document.

Me & my husband are Green card holders, we got our green card a year back. Could this be a reason ??

This is so frustrating, I'm expecting a baby soon & I want them here with me.

What could be the reason for their rejection ? What do they check on their computer ?

I have heard that if you have unmarried children's in India, if you are working , if you have old parents then it's very easy to get the visa. But it is totally false in my case.

Is it safe to take next appointment immediately ?? What are the chances of getting approval next time?
    Please advice.

I want to say thank you to all of you, this site is very useful, gave me a lot of information . The best part is we all are in the same boat & can share our good & bad experiences

Thats sad to hear. Its all luck I would say. Apply again and a different officer and a different day will give you good luck.

It is very strange. Atleast in my case my parents were not working (retired) - But in your case eventhough your mom was working they rejected the visa? Its very sad. So one thing is very clear, there is no way we can figure out how and why they reject or issue visa. As you said, it is very painful after spending so much of hours in preparing these documents and preparing your parents for the interview, it is really sad.

I am planning to take the next interview in June (rejection was in Jan 3rd) because that is the time the next appt slot will be avlbl. But as lot of others say there is no way we can ensure that the next time it will go through fine, but to me, It seems its better if you leave some gap of 3 or 4 months before taking the next interview.

i can imagine how sad you must be feeling...but plz dont loose hope.
i suggest you apply as early as possible...in my case thts the thing tht helped i guess, coz it showed the officer tht i was determined.
as far as the chances of getting the visa the second time round...be optimistic and have lots of faith on god...

One thing that they could check in the computer is to find if you have visited India recently ...

My mother appeared for interview on Nov 10th last year and Today ( Jan 10th ) at chennai. Her application got rejected both times. I am yet to know the details of what happened in the today's interview.

So we never know why they reject or grant the visa. Just keep trying ...

As a backup plan ... apply for your in-laws also ...

              Thanks you guys !
Last time I visited in June 2004.
I did not go recently thinking I'll save my vacation time for my parents.
I have mother-in-law who is 76 yrs old, she has visa appointment this month end. I wanted to call her so that my parents will at home to take care .

Anyway I'm going to apply immediately, I mean taking an appointment after 3 bus days, the exact date of interview will be in June I guess & these 4 months time should be fine.

Many of my friends suggested me to take a letter from Senator/congressman, it seems they call consulate & ask them to reinterview & stamp the visa.
Anyone pl. tell me if it is true . Is it worth for trying ? or would it create any problem ????
              Thank you.

Apply through regular channel. Congressmen, Senator letter is not the deciding factor in granting visa to anyone.

Its sad to hear that they rejected your parents visa although your mom is working.
I had a question for you. I remember you had posted a question on this forum stating that you had tried sending documents to VFS center before the interview and they returned them back. I would like to know if your parents submitted any documents at VFS center before the interview or they took the documents along with them to the Consulate at the time of interview.
                  Thanks in advance.

We do not have to submit any of sponsor's documents. Only visitor's forms like DS156,157 etc.
