  • UKC not sure where to marry USC citizen

Hi! Apologies if there has been another post like this but I really just wanted to see what people thought about our situation. My Fiancee and I really want to get married soon in the hope that I can eventually live to the US. We are unsure if it is best to get married here in the UK and then apply for a green card, or if it is best to get married in the US after applying for a K1 visa. We also thought about getting married whilst on a tourist visa but this seems risky.

if anyone has any advice about this, or any idea timelines, that would be such a great help.

we are desperate to be together!

The safest course of action is applying for the K1 visa, and get married in the US. It is also the course of action that will probably raise the least suspicion. Because, being honest, getting married is a big deal - if he's a US citizen and gets married outside the US, the consular officer would ask "how come? his parents in the US, friends, others - nobody attended the ceremony?"

Or you can marry in the UK and then your husband can apply under IR - immediate relative. No clue how long that is taking these days. K1 visas are taking between five and seven months.

The last option (traveling to the US, getting married there) is risky. I don't understand why you mention a tourist visa - I understand from the title of your post you're a UK citizen. If you are not - then it would make sense to talk tourist visa (depending on country of citizenship) - but the USCIS highly dislikes people that does that (travels on tourist visa and then gets married in the US).

    Do the K1 visa.
