Can B1/B2 visa sponsored by employer be used for visiting (vacation) purpose? Is any other letter or supporting document needed for the travel?

I assume you're an indian citizen? Generally speaking, once you have a B1/B2 visa you can use it as many times as you want for traveling for business or tourism - as long as you don't overstay and as long as you respect the 2:1 rule (stay outside the US twice the time you stayed in the US).

But for India, and due to the rampant visa fraud, visas issued to indian citizens in India usually have annotations, like "traveling for two weeks" or "training july/2014" or something like that.

Now: those annotations *have no legal value or standing* - they're only a heads-up from the consular officer to the CBP officer at POE, and usually used when the consular officer that granted your visa wasn't 100% sure of your intent - and yet decided to cut the visa for you.

So: if no annotation, you should be good to go - no additional documents needed. If your visa has an annotation, caution - you may or not be allowed entry to the US.
