Visitor Visa - Father's Visa Approved But Mother's Refused

Hi All,
This may sound like strange and you may have NEVER heard of this kind of situation. My parents had an visitors visa appointment on Jan7th at chennai consulate, they attended together and had a telugu translator. Finally what happened was that, CO approved visa for my dad and refused for my mom. Did any one ever come across this kind of situation. I do really appriciate if you have any thoughts

The interview went for 10 mins. Most of the questions were answered by my dad. The following questions were asked

1) How many children you have
2) Where is your son working in USA
3) How much is he earning per annum
4) What are your income sources in India (my dad is retired)
5) Where does your son-in-laws work in India

Thats all, they said they granted visa for my father but not to my mother. when my dad asked may I know the reason, it seems they said american rules are not permitting

Did this kind incedent happend to any one/or do you aware of any thing as such

I did hear of it before BUT I really thought that, that was some rumor. Hmm thats so strange. Atleast they should have shared a concrete reason for rejection.

is it because of Age?

the reason for Rejecting your mother visa, could it be because of your mothers age?
Like below 55? or 50?

It was not because of age, after the conversation of 10 mins or so, it seems they were talking among themselves about one being rejected and other approved. Finally they gave 214b though

They gave 214b only to my mother, fathers visa was granted
