  • Mother's visa rejected on Jan 3rd at Chennai Consulate:(

    Hi,
My mother's visa rejected on Jan 3rd at chennai consulate.
    These are the questions asked.

1.Why your husband is not travelling with you?
Since he runs his business here he is not in a position to travel with me.

2.How many children do u have?
    four

    3.Are they all married?
    Yes

After this they simply rejected my mom's application under 214b. They didnt look in to any of the sponsors document.

What do u think could be the reason for thevisa rejection? I have 3 brothers in India doing business and iam the only daughter staying here H1.

Iam planning to book the appointment again...please suggest me how to handle the situation this time?

Do the CO's note the questions they ask last time some where for their reference in the future...can i ask my mom to lie this time that she has an unmarried son and whose marriage is fixed in another 6 months and show the proofs of it..do u think this will work out?/

    Let me know.

And one more question regarding the Ds-156 form. My mom doesnt have a surname ..she just have a first and middle name and passport also has the surname empty..while filling DS-156 form surname is compulary and instuction is given as below in the website to fill the surname.

    1. In the following forms, enter your name exactly as noted in your passport.

    2. If you believe that your name has not been correctly recorded in your passport, please get the passport rectified by the Passport Issuing Office before making a visa application.

    3. If you prefer to use only given name and do not use a surname, please follow these instructions: -

    a. In the next screen, you will be filling out Form DS-156

    b. Please enter your entire given name in response to Q. no. 6 of Form DS-156

    c. Please enter “FNU” in response to Q. no. 7

Question number 6 in DS-156 asks for the surname and Q.no. 7 in DS-156 asks for First and middle names....so as per passport i should give FNU for Q.No.6 and full name for Q.No. 7 but the instruction the website is misleading me...please clarify this.

    Thanks in advance,
    Shakila Banu

Whether you have first name missing or last missing, you have to mention whatever names you have in "Last name" field and write FNU in the first name field.

In other words, if you have only first name, write that name in last name, and write FNU in the first name field. That is the rule.

      Hi!

I do understand that it is the rule but don't you think it is ridiculous? becoz....the name on your passport and visa issued would be exactly opposite?

        Hi,
Yes it is ridiculous to give the first name as the surname and FNU as first name...which is no where matched with the passport details. And even before taking printout of the DS-156 form it asks us to confirm the passport number, surname and first name and press 'continue'. Do i need to give the same here too i.e, first name as surname and FNU as first name?

        Kindly help.

        Regards,
        Shakila Banu

          Hi!

Basically the US Consulate require you to hold a last name. IF you DO NOT have a last/surname then you have to give your first name as your last/surname and FNU as your first name everywhere. I have heard from a friend that even on your I-94 you would have to fill it out that way.

            Law is a law.

They require you to have last name.

If any name is missing, that is the procedure. https://www.immihelp.com/passport-fo...r-immigration/

              Hi,
Thanks a lot for the responses...
And one more questions do the CO's remember the questions they ask in the previous interviews. can we give a different answer than the previuos interview? Will this have a negative impact?

              Regards,

I dont think its such a good idea to lie at the interview. I dont know if they keep records, but it is quite easy to get caught in a lie.

Besides, sometimes, one just runs into an officer that is in a hurry, and is using the cookie cutter system to determne who gets a visa and who doesnt. A checklist if you will. Reapply, dont lie, just explain carefully why she will return, is my opinion.
