Hello, my father-in-law has two names - X and Y (only first name). All his certificates/ID-cards have name as X while my wife (his daughter) school certificate/passport has his name as Y.
If we apply his passport (he does not have a passport now) in the name of X and i sponsor his US travel as visitor, is it possible to justify both X and Y belongs to one person through an affidavit and get his visa approved? Can there be any other issues? Please Seeking expert advise to handle this situation.

For your father-in-law, "C" is his legal name. For whatever reasons, he has chosen to allow documents for other family members to show his name as "Y." I'm assuming the "Y" use is an informal "familiar" name used by him and by family members. Since "Y" is not a legal usage of his name, your only option is to execute an affidavit explaining that both uses are the same person.

Thanks a lot Ray B. I think you meant "X" where you have mentioned "C".
