When to file application before visa expires?

I came in US with B1/B2 visa. And I got married to a US citizen. My B1/B2 visa will be expired on 16th December. I want to file application end of october. I would like to know that if i am gonna be able to stay after December 16th. And is there any problem if i just file application any date before December 16th?
