B-2 visa for Germans

Hello all,
Please, if anyone knows anything about B-2 visas for Germans respond!
I wish to travel to the U.S. for an extended visit with friends for six months, thus exempting me from the visa waiver program. How easy is it to obtain a B-2 visa for citizens from VWP nations?
Additionally, I will be supplying the proper docs to overcome the assumption to immigrate, while my U.S. friends will also provide docs of support.
What shall I list for my reason of travel to the U.S. for six months?
It seems odd India nations always get granted a six months for a B-2, while VWP participants are limited to 90 days....

VWP is meant for max 3 months.

For B2 visa holders, it is up to the port of entry officers to grant the stay, which is usually 6 months.
