  • TouristVisa Rejected, What are the chances for getting B2 visa for a single person?

Hi, Recently I tried to get B2 Visitor visa in Chennai Consulate. Unfortunately I got rejected.

I am planning to going to visit my Aunt in US. She is sponsoring my trip.
During the interview they don't even bothered to ask about the documents. The VO was bit stubborn from the beginning. It appeared like he didn't wanted to give me Visa before even starting the interview. I noticed some people getting blue slips and leaving the interview lobby sadly, I understood the sadness when I got the blue slip with 214b.

This is how the interviewer asked questions

Q:What is the purpose of the visit?
A:I am going to visit my relatives

Q:Why is it important for you to travel now?
A:She did some surgery recently, that's why I'm going to meet her

    Qoes she have any kids?
    A:Yes

Q:If her kids are not going the why are going there?
    A:Her kids are US citizens

Q:Where is your aunt staying in US?
    A:California

    Q:What do you do?
A:I'm in IT at xxx company

    Q:What is your salary?
    A:xxxxx

Q:Have you traveled to any other country before?
    A:No

Q:Have you got rejected for getting visa before?
    A:No

    Q:Are you single?
    Yes

He gave me blue slip with following paragraph checked. And told me 'Sorry we cannot give you visa this time.'

☑ This is to inform you that you have been found ineligible for a non immigrant visa under section 214b of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act. A denial under Section 214b means that you did not meet the requirements of the classification of the non-immigrant visa for which you applied.

The officer don't even looked into any of my documents. I had the leave approval letter from employer, bank statements, my sponsor documents. I'm living in fathers house so I kept a photocopy of deed in my fathers name. I struggled a lot protecting the documents in heavy rain But none of them was used in interview.

Can I try again in few days? What are my chances to get the visa? Why I'm rejected? How much money they expect to see as salary for someone who want to travel abroad? Does travel to other countries required for 27 year old person to get US tourist visa? How can I do better presentation here?

I absolutely don't want to stay in US for long time, this trip is just only for vacation and spend time with my relatives.
Since I've more important work coming I cannot take leave on office on Jan or next year.

You should reapply only if some circumstances has changed from the last time when you applied for the visa.. If you reapply now mostly you will have the same issue as earlier.
This is not a legal advice. Use at your own risk.

        Salary

I applied as a single person a few years ago and there was no problem. I don't think that's the issue.
What I would recommend is to ask HR in your company a letter stablishing what your position is and how much you make a year. Also, if you have property or bank accounts bring documents with you. Same if you are attending classes somewhere, bring documents about it.
What they want to know is that you have money to travel and intend to go back to your country after visiting. If you are single you have no family to go back to, that's why you have to show them that you have a good job or school and you are going back to them.

I am reapplying again next month. I hope I can demonstrate my situation that I'll comeback to my country after the trip.

Hi, Thank you so much I am so relieved. So its possible, single persons will get the chances. I had letter from the company, pay slips, bank statements etc, but VO didn't asked anything about those. During the interview it appeared like the VO didn't wanted to end up in checking my documents. So he intelligently asked me questions in a way that I won't produced documents. When I was practicing for the interview I imagined an old man in suite asking questions. But the appearance of my VO was surprising, he was a young bald guy who wears a bow tie with lots of tattoos up to the wrist like a wrestler. Maybe he didn't liked when I accidentally stared at him.

Your point about the studies is really good. I'll keep this in mind. And I'll try to produce my documents
