renewal of B1/B2 visitor - questions

Hi:
I am planning to invite my mother to visit US. she had a 10 year visa before and it expired last month.
I have all the application filled for renewal.

On the visa application scheduler website, I was told that it is not necessary for her to visit Hyderabad US consulate.

Does anyone know, living AP, what exactly is drop box system. Does she has to travel to US consulate and not appear for interview or can she send the application from where she lives while Bank (that processes fee and schedule visa time) take fingerprints?

whats the catch here for visa interview waiver?

appreciate your responses if your loved ones went through visa renewal process.

You can take drop box package to one of the visa application center. First it needs to review and then will send it to consulate. There is no guarantee that visa will be issued. Sometime consulate requires you to appear in person.
