Self sponsoring visitor visa

Hi,

One of my relatives is planning to visit USA on B2 visa and he plans to self-sponsor it.
My question is how much bank balance, salary and liquid asset is sufficient amount for self-sponsoring.
Also, does self-sponsoring make a stronger case via getting sponsored from someone residing in the USA?

If someone is able to take care of the expenses of their US trip themselves, it is always better.

There is no set rule. They should have enough money to take care of all the expenses for their US trip.
