  • Visitor's visa to attend cousin's wedding

    Hi all

I am 27 years old. I applied for visitors visa and the interview was scheduled on 31st December. I had all the relevant documents with me like wedding card, my leave approval from employer, bank statement, salary slip, cover letter from my relative in US.

    The VO asked following questions:

    Q) Purpose of your visit
    A) To attend my cousin's wedding

    Q) What do you do?
    A) Answered correctly with my company's name

    Q) How much do you earn?
    A) Answered correctly (Per month salary)

    Q) What does your father do?
    A) Answered correctly

    Q) What is your father's salary?
    A) Answered correctly (Per month salary)

    Q) Have you travelled outside India before?
    A) No

    Q) Are you married?
    A) No

"You visa is denied".... Gave a 214(b) booklet

    - Please tell me whether I should be showing my documents that I am only allowed by my employer for one month, and have a cover letter assuring my visit in US till authorized period, without asking by VO?
    - Also can I still apply as my sister's wedding (Sikh custom) in on 30 Jan 2016 and tell them about my leaves on my own even if they don't ask for it?
    - Or should I wait till march to reapply as there is another wedding(Christian custom) in April?
    - Should I ask groom (American) to write me a cover letter for my visit in USA?
    - I did not tell them that I'm a bridesmaid in the wedding fearing that I may over speak cause they did not ask me much.... I seriously need to either of my cousin's wedding as she is the only sister I have.
    - Also suggest if I should fax the cover letter before the Interview.

    1. You can try again. Carry all the documents but provide only if visa officer asked.
    2. You can apply in April.
    3. Yes.

This is not a legal advice. Use at your own risk.

"Thanks!! Where can I fax my cover letter? Should it be by the groom who is an American?"
Also can you tell me what went wrong with my interview?"

There may be couple of reasons.

Unmarried , not sufficient income and you want to attend cousin's wedding. That's not considered as close relatives. Your cousin can send you invitation letter that will be more effective and you can carry during your interview.

"Thanks!! I had a cover/ invitation letter from my cousin's mom. But the VO dint ask for it so I couldn't show. I think I should fax the letter. But where can I fax this? Is it sure that they are going to see the letter before my interview as I would not know which consulate will I get at the time of interview?
Also will the letter from my cousin be more effective than her mother's?
And I don't earn as less since I am a tax payer in India. I had my tax documents along with my bank balance and savings documents with me but they dint ask for any of them. Can it be that I answered my salary in per month so they got it less, should I be telling it in per annum?
Also how can I tell them that I am only have an off for a month and then I have to resume my duties in office, if they don't ask about my leaves?

Thank you for your time and effort in advance!!"
