  • Visitor Visa for my parents

Hello, I am a new member to this forum. I am a US Citizen and an expat who worked in India for the past many years now, before "semi retiring". I am currently a resident of India, though in the past as a resident of US have sponsored my parents trips to the US, they have held 10 year multiple entry visa which has expired now.

I am in a unique situation now!!

My daughter will graduate next year and I would like my parents to visit the US for a week or two and enjoy the occasion. I will also be traveling in for the same and all aspects of my parents trip will be sponsored by me (tickets, stay, health insurance etc.)

Now, coming to the crux of the matter. What is needed for my parents to apply for the US visitor visa (they are Indian citizens) and how can I help them get the same. What documents are needed and will it be fine if I sponsor them with a residence outside the US?

I have maintained adequate funds in the U.S to prove that I can sponsor their visit. My parents will not be able to demonstrate sufficient funds on their own.

The fact that they are parents of US citizens puts them in the hisk risk of immigration category. Unfortunately you cannot do much to change that. Go with the right set of documents and hope the VO understands.

This is my opinion not legal advice.

I am a US Citizen, my parents and Grand Father are Indian Citizens, they got the Visitors Visa recently. V.O only asked few questions like Why are you going to US , where, for how long , What's your son's Profession, what's your profession to my dad, Mom and Grand Father.
Last Question V.O asked is .. Is your son a US Citizen ? When my dad replied yes. V.O told you got the Visa.

I also know few other colleagues including India and other countries who are in same boat, their parents got the Visitors Visa too. So being a US Citizen doesn't rule out the option of Visitors Visa for Parents. May be less percent of approval compare to non US citizens. I don't know.. Just try once and stress the point that they don't have a immigrant intent to apply for GC and B1/B2 Visa is the right visa for them.. like providing proper documentation, showing strong ties like other family members, Assets , letter to embassy etc.
