  • Mom's Visa - Couple of questions regarding interview

Hi there, thank you for taking your time to answer my questions. I scheduled an interview appointment for my Mom and got it on March 20th in English (Chennai Consulate). The reason for my Mom's visit is for my wedding which will be taking place here in USA. I remember reading few posts here in the forum that it's a bad idea to use Marriage as a reason for the trip. How true is that? I do have two siblings (younger brother and sister) who are in India and thanks to the popular opinion I am not even requesting a visa application for them. To summarize:

    1) Is using Marriage as a reason for the trip, a bad idea? I am ready to submit the wedding card, receipts etc.

    2) Is there any way I can apply for my Sister's visa? She is still going to school and I don't have a reasonble way to prove that she is not an immigration risk?

    Any advice would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Mallik.

Your mom can get a shorter period visa if she is going for attendending your wedding. In that case a there may be a three week notation on the visa. Asking for a longer period is not justifiable.Generally getting an extension is difficult in this case too. Specific purpose is specific.

For Younger applicants for the same purpose, the chances are slim.

Hmm, that clears it up. No wonder Marriage reason would be a bad idea. I would like her to stay here with me for couple of months and check out US.

I wish I can at least apply for the three week visa for my Sister, for the wedding. She would be fine with that; but you say the chances are slim. Well, thanks for the answers Cheif!
