  • Has anyone ever got a US visit visa while "Not employed" ?

    Hi All,

I am currently on a career break, sort of a sabbatical. I intend to visit my friend in US (I worked and lived there for 4 years) and am attending b2 visa interview. I will be sponsoring the trip myself and have stated all of this on the DS-160. But as I searched online for anyone who received b2 visa while unemployed or 'Not employed', could nt find any.

So just want to shout out to any readers who themselves have or know someone who got a US visit visa while Not working. By not working i mean, they have stated this on the forms too as "Not employed".

    thanks

The US embassy is less concerned about employment status than ensuring the applicant can prove he or she returns to their home country after visiting the US. Unemployed applicants can expect to be asked about their source of funds and ability to finance their travel, food\lodging etc.

You're right. Got mine approved today. Thank God.

Also my respect for the US immigration system (whatever holes we might otherwise see) increased today. I am not employed and sponsoring myself for the trip to visit a friend. I am busy undertaking own house construction in India and expecting our second child in 6 months. I only stated these clearly as ties to India. Even with these, although I don't have any intention of not returning, the VO could have gone both ways.

Visa approved and no documents asked. Would like to encourage myself and other Indian friends to always abide by their laws and to respect the system they have in place. Makes it easier for all of us.
