  • Is Visa Photo really required for Visa Interview ?

    Hi Experts,

I have seen in Mandatory documents required for Visitor Visa Interview that a Photograph (with mentioned specifications) is mandatory for the interview.

However, I heard that US consulate does not use the photograph that we carry. They use the same photograph that is taken in the OFC during Fingerprint session.

Please suggest if a photograph is really required. My Father is 72 years of age and I do no want him to go to a studio and get the photograph if it is not really required.

    Regards,
    Gunj.

Yes, they do use the photo taken at OFC while printing the visa, however it is required to carry approx 4 photographs as per the specification. Sometime during the interview if they feel that the OFC photo is not clear or if they have any doubt, they ask for your recent photograph & use that. This mostly happens in case of kids & elders.

You won't want to take risk just for the photographs. I can understand the pain for elders, alternatively you can have the photo taken in your home with white background & ask the photo-studio guy to arrange it as per the specification.

Best of luck to your parents.
