ESTA Application - overstayed before

hi, general question: if you apply for an ESTA and admit that you had previous overstayed on your Tourist visa but there may be no record because it was in 1992 before the ESTA was used. Will I be questioned about it or might there be a chance that I get it anyways? Also I previously answered no to the question and have an ESTA that is about to expire but dont want to missrepresent. Please help. Thanks

Even though there is no record. It's better to provide truthful answer and let visa officer decide on visa approval.
