  • Visitor Visa Rejected for my parents

    Hi,

Recently my parents went to US Consulate in Calcutta for the visitor visa interview and their visa got rejected after few questions. Before the interview they have collected only support letter I-134, my visa documents, letter addressed to the consulate and invitation letter to my parents, but they didn’t take any other documents. They also had affidavit that my grandfather living with them and they will come back to India after their short visit to USA. Even they didn’t take this document or my parents financial support documents.

During interview, the interviewer asked my father:

    1. When did you retire?
    2. Where you used to work?
    3. How many sons and daughters you have?
    One son and one daughter.
    4. Who is in US?
    My son.
    5. How much pension do you get?
    Rs. 5,900.00

After that interviewer said to my father that your financial condition is not good enough to give you visa. My father wanted to show property documents (they have their own Flat in Calcutta) and other financial support like bank balance, the certificates of deposits with monthly interest income etc. But Interviewer didn’t want to see those, he just went away. Their visa refused under 214(b).

I don’t understand what the actual reason for the visa refusal is. If the financial condition is the reason for their visa rejection, then why the officer didn’t check their financial documents. Even the officer did not ask my father what is his property value? How much bank balance do they have etc. Among us only me is in US, my sister is not in US.

I am planning to take another appointment for my parents. But want to find out what would be the actual reason for their visa rejection, so that we can correct in the next time. If someone has some insight about this type of refusal please let me know.

Also, another question I have, if the visitor visa refused once will it make any effect on the next visitor visa interview? Or each visa interview is different and the outcome on that is based on the current documents provided and the interview questions/answers, previous refusal has no effect on it. Someone please clarify me on this.

Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Soumen

    hi soumen

The refusal doesnt mean that they wont be given visa the next time. Its just a matter of how you answer the questions asked. Get the documents attested and verified by legal authority etc..Bank statments by manager of a bank. Incase some one is sponsoring then the required papers etc.
My mom had a visa refusal earlier too. But she got the visa next time.
    Let me know the outcome.

      Same Happened

The same happened to my mother in law. She has a son working in India. She had taken all the property documents, reative photos, her son' job letter, ID card etc and the I 134 i sent, W2's, Tax returns invitation letter and the docs as per this site.

She is a widow and she gets her husband' pension. When asked abt her income she said the shes getting Rs.3000/Month pension and after that the visa was refused under 214(b).

Even though i'm sponsoring the visit (clearly said in DS 156) , i dont understand why VO reject based on the income they receive.
My MIL has 2 houses and some bank balance and took all the docs with her but they never looked at it when she tried to hand it over to them.

Shes going to try again in June.

      Thanks
