  • Change to B2 from L1

    Hello,

I am currently holding an L-1 Visa issued to me in January 2013 when I was assigned to Guam for six months. I wish to visit mainland US in December 2016 for vacation/pleasure trip with my family. Can I travel using the same L-1 Visa or should I change the status to B-2 Visa? If there is a need to change, what are the procedures and the relevant forms to be filled up.

Hoping for a response from the community.

    Thank you.

For entry with L1, you'll need I797 or I129 as well at the POE. And once in USA, you'll need to be get paid by your petitioner. So, it not suggested to use your L1 visa for tourism purpose.

Its better to apply for a separate B2 visa for the visit. To apply for B2 its pretty much the same process as L1 - DS160, appointment & interview.
