  • Visitor Visa Renewal

    Folks,

    Have a question regarding visitors visa renew for my mother.

    Earlier myself(on L1A) and mother(B2) traveled to US multiple times.
    We came back in middle of 2014 to India.

    Now, for work reason; I applied and got my L1A visa; I am asked to travel back. Since my mothers visa expired; we need to renew it.
    Per the link

    she is eligible for interview waiver program.

    Can we go ahead and apply for her visa renewal so that we can travel together?
    OR
    Is it mandatory that I have to be in US; before she can even apply for renewal?

    The reason; I am asking is to avoid the travel hassles if required to travel alone.

    Kindly requesting your guidance.

    Regards

    She can go ahead & request for renew under IWP (without you being in USA).

    In case if the VO feels to talk to her, they will return the passport (without rejection) & request to appear for interview.

      Thanks Libra_14.

      Also, regarding visa renewal what can be the broad factors due to which a person could be called for interview?

      My mothers history of travel during the last 10 years
      - Four times traveled ; minimum duration was atleast a year between two travels.
      - during the last travel; did apply for extension and was granted (6+6 months) too; however we stayed for eight months only.

      Pl. let me know your thoughts.

      Regards,

        Since she maintained a good history so far, there are high chances that she will get the visa renewed in first shot. Assuming she never overstayed as per the I94 issued to her on every visit.

        In case if she gets call to attend the interview, it will be most likely that the office would like to see her health to travel to USA & she won't become an burden for you/USA for any health related expenses (which is damn costly in USA).

          Visitor visa renewal

          All,

          We had scheduled an OFC appointment for fingerprinting and photo in Mumbai.
          During this visit, my mother was told that there will be no interview and visa will be granted; today when the passport was picked up; they issued a form saying she has to attend the interview.

          Can some one pl. help ?

          Currently I am in US;
          She was granted 10 year visa;
          There were total of four visits in this duration.
          One extension obtained to stay; it was granted; but returned home always before expiry of I94/extension date.

          Kindly let me know your thoughts.

            Circumstances change.. she schedules and attends an interview.

            Fyi.. never, ever seek an extension on a B2 visit unless a real emergency.
