  • Visitor Visa for widow mother

    Hi Everyone,

Is it true that there are chances of rejection of a visitor visa if she is a widow. My Dad expired 6 months ago and I was inviting my mom to visit US for my graduation ceremony. Somebody advised against declaring that my dad was no more, doubting that this gives a cue to consular officer that she may not return. In actuality she plans to return back in 2 months and has property papers to show, my sister and her kids are in India etc

    Please advise
    -Himanshu

She is cominng here for both graduation and tourism. In fact I had heard , that usually it is easier to get a visa if you have a invitation letter from university for attending the graduation ceremony.I have that.

That does make it a little difficult !

If your mom can handle saying that her husband is alive then that is your best bet ! Obviously the consulate has no way of knowing whether someone's spouse is no more.

If she can say that with a straight face then your case is solid because that would tell the official that she has strong ties to come back. With both husband and daughter back in India the probability of her getting the visa is higher no doubt. Of course she'll have to be prepped with questions about why her husband is not traveling with her, what does he do etc. Also ideally, saying that she's going for graduation as well as tourism is a good idea.

Dude, Always tell the truth, people who **** things makes the process difficult for others.

I applied for my widow mother's visa year back and got 10 yrs Multiple entry. Just say whatever is truth.....

Yeah I think I just got a little too worried. I have decided to go with the truth. Have made sure that she prepared for the interview and ready with all required documents.

After that lets see what happens

              I agree ...

... you should tell the truth !

The thing is I read these forums regularly and I noticed that there were a lot of visa refusals for widows hence my suggestion about not mentioning about her husband's passing away !

It certainly does increase chances of refusal but if your mom can show extremely strong ties back home then I don't see why she'll be refused a visa !

              Best of luck !

                    Mother got visa

Hey Guys thanks for the help and the information on this site:

my mother got a visitor visa :

                    Questions asked:

1: Why do u want to go to us ? ( graduation and tourism , had told mom which places she will be visiting)
                    2: How much time ? ( 2 months)
3: Do you stay alone . ?( Mom said I have my relatives in delhi, a nephew living along and daughter visits regularly)

The american visa officer ( who spoke in hindi) said you got the visa and we will send it withn two weeks.

Thanks all of you once again
                    I am heavily relieved

                    Regards
                    -Himanshu

                      Hi,

                      Congratulations on your mother's visa.

My mom is a widow and I have an appointment for her visa on June 26th in Chennai. Can you please let me know what all docs are necessary? I am on H1 B visa.

1.Also, how much minimum amount should I need to show in my Bank Account ?
                      2. How many recent bank statments do I need to provide and how much should be the approximate amount?
                      3. Does my mom also need to show sufficient amount in her account in India too?

I would appreciate if you can let me know in detail...

                      Please let me know..

                      Thanks,
                      Raghu.

                        5K is reasonable.
                        3 months preferable
better to establish financial stability in home country too.

Since you don't have siblings, your parents should demonstrate that they have some other ties with your homecountry so that they'll return. Be truthful.

I am applying for my mothers visitors visa.My dad is nor more .The passport just gives my dad' s name with no Late before the name .When she contacted passport office ,they said they do not add that .Just spouse name is enough .
I think the passport shuld be changed to show my that my father is deceased .I am onfised on how to enter information for visa regarding my father's name .Should it match the passport or just give the true picture .
                              Please advise .
                              Thanks
