  • My sister wants to reapply for B1/B2 VISA

    Hi all
A cultural association invited my sister to attend a conference . and my sister got all the required documents and applied for VISA last month which was rejected with 214(B)
So she wants to reapply .
As per the rejection code 214(b) I understand that she failed to convince the consulate
All her documents invitation Ds160 form evrything was fine but She could have chosen her mother tongue (Kannada) instead of English where she failed to communicate properly .
So someone please explain what all the preparation she needs to reapply
1.Is it ok if she reapplyies alone or Does she requires to reapply with her husband ((she is 48 old staying with her husband and two children) in interview consulate pointed that she is married and she applied for visa alone even though she had a NOC from her husband which consulate didn't asked)
    2. Is it OK if she choose Kannada language when she applies next how she can convince effectively .
3 . what all the documents that she need in addition of she is applying second time.
    4. And the association sponser from US said. That they are ready to send a copy of invitation email to consulate office which would help her to get visa . is it required ..? If this helps which email I'd they need to send ..?
Would be really helpful if someone can help me here.

    Many thanks in advance .

She should have responded that she is going to attend a conference & not for tourism, hence she applied alone & she has no intention to take family along.

She can give interview in Kannada, but than it'll show that she is not good in English & how can someone not good in English can attend a conference in English.

She'll need similar documents for the next time as well, however any documents to show substantial difference in situation (for reapplying visa) will be helpful.

It is recommended to have invitation letter from sponsor addressing the consulate. They need to send the letter to the applicant & applicant need to carry it along during the interview (no need to mail it to consulate).

    Hope this will help.

What is your sister's role at the conference? Will she be a keynote speaker, or a subject-matter expert?

Be assured, cultural association invitations hardly mean anything to a visa officer. There are thousands of such associations in the US, be it kannada\telugu\muslim whatever association, as you are probably aware. What the officer wants to know is, what are sister's ties to her home country that will force her to board the flight back after her US visit is complete. 214b basically means she could not convince the VO she will will return to her home country.
