B2 visitor visa extension

I am trying to extend the B2 visitor visa by 2 months for my parents. As i was looking into the relevant information about it, i came across this statement in one of the other immigration sites:

"If the USCIS denies the application for extension of B-2 status and the Form I-94 has expired, the visa stamped on the passport (though it is a multiple-entry visa) is considered automatically cancelled under section 222(g)[12] of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Though there is no seal or stamp canceling the visa on the passport, this information is stored in the USCIS records as well as the US consular databases and may be accessed during future visit to the United States. Obtain a new B1/B2 visa stamp from a U.S. Consulate prior to future travel to the United States as a visitor."

I want to know how accurate is this. Is it really true that the multiple entry visa will stand cancelled if the visitor visa extension request is declined?

It is correct.

Not a good idea to extend a routine b2, barring a real emergency.

Suggestion will be to not extend the visit. Have them go back so that you can call them again.
