Can the French embassy cancel my B2 visa?

Hello everyone,

Now I know this may sound like a silly question, but I thought that I might ask it anyway. I'm going to be applying for a French student visa soon and I've heard that the process is very hard. I want to know that if I'm unable to receive my French student visa, do the French embassy has the authority to cancel my B2 visa as well?
