  • Parents got visa in second attempt

    Hello,
My parents have received a 10 year multiple entry visa in their second attempt. Their visa was rejected the first time in november 2005 under section 214 B. Our situation:

Parents : father retired, mother housewife.
    3 daughters all in USA
    Home in India.No business.

Reason stated for visit: daughters' graduation.

THe seond time: NO change in situation. WE wrote a letter to the CO stating the multiple reasons that they would return. ( my parents by the way have NO intention of remaining here...like most people I guess).

    The interview:

    Why are you going?
    daughter's graduation

    Where is she graduating from?
    YYYY
CO: my wife also graduated from the same

How long do you want to stay?
    3 months

    Where did you work?
    ZZZ

How much pension do you get?
    ZZZ

What does your daughter do in USA?
    ZZZ

HE was apparently jovial and granted the visa. We just found out that it is a 10 year multilple entry visa.

Thank you for maintaining a wonderful and helpful site. I strongly believe that getting a visa is purely luck....

    good luck to all!!

I posted one format for the letter in an earlier posting but cannot find the link. I will type it up again in a bit. Basically its a one page document with bullet points with appropriate highlighting to indicate the reasons why your parents need to return to India. What my mother did was carry 2 copies of the letter with her. One she put in the flap along with her passport and visa app and handed over to the officer. Another she kept with her. That was a back up measure in case the officer failed to read the one she handed over and she found a nice opp. to hand it over to him. Luckily the officer was nice and patient and read through the letter I had written and even joked to her about some things I said.

              letter format

This is the format I used:

              From
              ..

              To
              The Counsel General
              United States of America Consulate
              Chennai, India

              Dear Sir/Madam,
RE: Re-application of tourist visa for my mother (in bold)

I, <name>, work at <company> with an annual income of <amt>. I would like to invite my mother, <name>, to visit us for 3 months.
On Feb 15th 2006, her visa was rejected under 214(b). <If possible explain the reason why her visa was rejected very briefly. I said she had difficulty understanding the officer due to the accent and so this time I had reapplied with a Tamil interpreter. Her first apt on Feb 15th was English and her second one on March 3rd was in Tamil..though no interpreter was used then> I am writing this letter to convince you of her return before the expiration of her authorized stay.
              1....
              2....
              (with appropriate phrases in bold)
I hereby assure you that she is definitely not a potential immigrant. I promise you that she will leave the United States before the expiration of her authorized stay. Kindly grant her a tourist visa.
              Thanking you,
              ...
