Hi,
I am an Indian citizen living in India. My fiancé is an American citizen who has been living and working in India for the past 4 years. We have been dating for about 3 years before we got engaged in April. We are visiting the US in October for a week (to attend his sister's wedding). I will be traveling on my tourist visa. We are thinking about get married there. Both of us will return to India and will continue to live in India for at least 1.5 to 2 years. He will apply for my green card after a period of at least 12 months, once it is clear that his next assignment is in the US.
We do not want to go through the lengthy process of fiancé visa, especially because we are not planning to move to the US before another 18 months. I want to understand if traveling to the US on a tourist visa and getting married to an American citizen within a week of entry will adversely affect my application when my then-husband will apply for a spouse visa in 2017.
Both of us have jobs in India and we sincerely intend to return to India after getting married in the US. The main reason for us wanting to get married in the US is the extremely complex and frustrating Indian legal process for a foreigner to get married in India, topped by the whimsical attitude of marriage officers regarding the documents and verifications required. It is so much simpler in the US.
