Hi,
I have a quick question about relative status.
Here is the situation:
I am an American citizen living in China for the past few years. I met my Chinese wife while she was studying in the US and we moved to Shanghai.
My wife is helping her mother (my mother-in-law), fill out the DS-160 so she, along with my wife’s 9 year old half-sister, can get a B2 visa and travel to the US with us this summer.
For the question, “Do you have any immediate relatives not including parents in the US?” we answered ‘NO’. I am not living in the US currently (non-resident status), so this would be ‘NO’, correct? Am I even considered an immediate relative?
Then, the application asks “Do you have any other relatives in the United States?” Are MY parents considered relatives of my mother-in-law? They are living in the US, so should we answer ‘YES’ to this one?
She got denied the visa on her first interview, so we are being extra careful about everything.
Thanks in advance if someone has some answer for this!
