  • B1/b2 visa for parent

I know this might not be the exact place to post it but any effort to answer my question will be utmost welcomed.I am from Ghana and entered the country 2014 with a B1/B2 Visa and got married to a USC.I got my Green card March this year through AOS marriage based and my wife decided she would want my parent to come.she decided to send all necessary document needed for the tourist visa so we could spend time together this Nov 2015 and i also sent proof to establish sufficient income and relationship but surprisingly, my parents went for the interview and they asked them 5 questions which are? where are you going to in the US? who are you going to see? who is paying for the trip ? how are you related to your sons wife? what is your sons name and D.O.B? My dad was the only asked all of these questions and trust me he has rehearsed everything before going there and immediately the last question was asked, my dad was told that i entered the country illegally? he was shocked and responded impossible but the interviewer was rude and screamed good day!..i do not understand what illegal means as regards to my personality ( status ) here in the USA? I showed proof of relationship including tax and all supporting document but they were not asked for? when i entered the country, i was never out of status as to the reason why the term illegal should even come up in the first place..I do apologize to anyone who finds my questions naive or too much.i am trying to re-apply for them and not make the same mistake which i do not know now.i appreciate any response while i anticipate them in earnest regard.

    Thanks all

You used a nonimmigrant B1/B2 visa to immigrate to the US. That's the problem. That's what the CO was talking about.

When you abuse nonimmigrant visas, it's harder for family to get visitor visas to visit you.

As others noted, you used a B2 visa to immigrate to the US. Makes it that much more difficult for others to obtain a visa. Ghana is perceived as high-fraud.

Interviewers are not rude or scream. Typically, applicants that are denied visas happen to color their views of the COs.

Thanks guys for the explanation towards my question .i never knew such rule prevents other family members from visiting me? Anyways, what do I do when next I reapply for them just to make sure that the same issue doesn't come up again..

No such rule, but your damaged credibility affects others. Affects your family, and affects future Ghana applicants. Makes it harder for genuine future visitors. Bet you didn't think about all that when you decided to immigrate on a visitor visa.

Somehow I will take your opinion into consideration with regards to your response but does it truly mean everyone that applied for a tourist visa from Ghana, India , Malaysia , Bangladesh or other countries to come to the USA are fraudulent bcos they adjusted status in the USA?there r obviously naturally occurring events of life that makes one to make a decision which was never intended ..Would you support the term 'illegal' when someone adjust status bcos he is from a country as fraudulent like you claim if you were the Interviewer? Anyways like I said , your personal opinion is noted while I appreciate your response..thanks bro

A good number seek to not return (many get married and adjust, others convert to F or H visas). You may or may not be one of them; I don't know. But think about when you were packing your bags in Accra for "a short US trip", did you pack just your short trip necessities, or did you pack with the intention of not coming back to Ghana, come what may? It's ironic some takes years to find a spouse, others find one in under 6 months on a B2. Funny how that works, eh. But hey, that's just my personal opinion.
