  • Question on DS 156

has anyone come across this situation:

My mom's passport states her full name in the given name and the surname is blank. while filling the DS 156 online, i got a mesage saying that in that case enter the given name in the surname column in the DS 156 and in the first name column on Ds 156 enter FNU.

I have doen this and also sent a print out of that message to my parents so that they can produce it when questioned abt FNU/

    should this be a problem

Immediate help as parents have interview next week.

    what u did is correct...

U could have done something called 'Observation' which could be done at the passport office to corrcet names like this. I did that for my in-laws. But since its late, what u have done is fine.. no need to worry.

      Anita,

I am also in the same situation as you. Somehow when my parents received their passports recently from the passport office, the surname column was blank and the cplmete named appeared under "Given Name".

So, like you I also did the same while taking an appointment for them ... i.e. eneterd FNU for first name and the complete name for Given name.

I just hope that it does not effect their VISA app. I understand though that we should have as few complexities as possible to keep the case clean.

i had sent a message earlier. and find below your reply to that.

My parents have now got their visa. in my mom's visa the first name appears as FNU and last name appears as her full name.

is it okay to book the tickets in her full name as thats what the passport states? kindly advise. will they have any problem at the port of entry.

        kindly advise

        anita
