  • Should I mention this in the interview or not?

Hey. I'm applying for a B1/B2 Visa for two purposes, to visit my relatives and research universities to pursue for my undergraduate education. I understand that later I will have to apply for an F1 Student Visa to continue my studying. My question is, am I allowed to research universities or attend university interviews while I'm there in my B1/B2 Visa, and should I mention that I have the intent to apply for an F1 Visa for the Fall 2017 admission? Or should I just not mention it, because anyway I'll be applying for an F1 Visa more than 60 days after my arrival in the US, so it would not count as preconceived intent?

You will be applying for an F1 visa more than 60 days after your arrival to the U.S. on a B2 tourist visa, and this is your plan now, so just so you know, that is preconceived intent.

So what was your question again?

You cannot.. repeat.. you cannot, enter the US on a B visa with the intention of studying. Return to your home country and apply for an F visa for studying 14 mos later.

Alright, just tell me what I'm supposed to do. I'm at my home country, I don't have a Visa yet. I've just completed my high school education, and taking a gap year. I want to continue my undergraduate education in the US. I am researching universities, and I want to visit them before I prepare a final shortlist to apply. It would also give me a chance to attend some interviews and talk with some professors or alumni. There's also the added business of visiting my relatives, but that's not my main goal. So, will B1/B2 Visa be right for me? I'll be going this October and will be back January. The courses will start next August.
