  • Visiting a boyfriend on B1/B2 visa

Hi all. I have a multi-entry 3-year B1/B2 visa and would like to visit the US about 6 months after my last visit--NY, specifically. If it makes a difference, I'm coming from Russia. My question is: Do the customs agents frown upon people visiting a boyfriend/girlfriend? As far as I know, that's not disallowed per the rules, per se, but I don't know what the actual reality is. I didn't have an bf in the US the last time I visited the country, so it's never been an issue. Of course I plan on being honest with the officer(s), but I'd like to know in advance if this is something that could lead to me being turned around at the airport. I also don't want to do anything that could possibly jeopardize my ability to enter the country in the future. I would only be visiting for about a week and a half or so. I've visited the country twice before and both times stayed only as long as I said I would, so I'm hoping my history of playing by the rules will reflect well on my word.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Immigration officer at the port of entry ask reason for the visit then your answer should be truthful.
This is not a legal advice. Use at your own risk.

Thanks, jnk. I certainly would be truthful. I'd just like to know beforehand, though, if visiting a boyfriend or girlfriend is allowed with a B1/B2. As far as I know, the purpose of such a visa is to visit the US temporarily as a tourist. In visiting my bf, I would be doing both: staying for a very short period of time and doing touristy things like visiting museums and landmarks and such. Given that, wouldn't the B1/B2 visa be the only appropriate one for someone in my situation?

Yes; B2 allows visits with friends and family. Just be sure to return to your native Russia at the end of your visit and not try to marry and overstay.
