The first time my sister was refused visa was in 2003, at the time she was studying and she was told to complete her studies, again she was refused visa 31st of this year infact she had put down that she was coming to visit me and also to get medical consult because she was told in India that she has high blood pressure and chronic kidney problem and the medication she is taking is not helping and we wanted her to come here to get help, but they didn't even ask her about the medical consult asked her what she did for a living and that was it. They asked her how much she made, she misunderstood and told them how much I made before joining school so I guess they would have assumed that she is not going to go back. Please help. Is there anyway to get her an earlier appointment through emergency interview and what are the criteria's for it?

There is no such thing as an emergency appointment. You must queue up at VFS like everyone else even if you have an emergency.
Please mention the type of visa she applied for,
her age, marital status, education, employment, salary and your status in the US.
Maybe we can find a solution.

thanks a ton for replying
it is frustrating because I can't be there for her at this time and I would really like for my sister to come here and get medical consults because she was hospitalised in december and she would have almost been killed.
My sister is single, 35years, passed her 12th and done a few computer courses and was running a day care before she fell sick and she was making good money, about RS.6000 has a lot of property in her name worth in total about 1 1/2 crore. I am studying here in the US to be a dentist. I am in my final year or more precise in my final quarter and I have my greencard from 2004 my husband has it from 2002.
When my sister was hospitalised back in december the doctors gave some kind of a contrast when they did a scan to see if there were any blood clot or haemorrhage in her head and we have a family friend who is a nephrologist
her in the US and he was telling us using a contrast would mean shutting down here kidney and so some of the test levels were high but in india since the test levels were high they wanted to do dialysis but since we refused they didn't do and so now I don't have faith in them plus the drugs she has been put on isn't helping.Last edited by sinnes; 03-14-2006, 06:06 PM.

There is such a thing as Emergency appointment. Here's the info from VFS site
If you have an unforeseen travel need as per one of the criteria listed below, you may qualify for an out-of-turn emergency appointment slot:
To obtain emergency medical care, or to accompany a relative or employer for emergency medical care.
To attend the funeral of an immediate family member (mother, father, brother, sister, child, grandparent or grandchild).
To attend to an urgent business matter where the travel requirement could not be predicted in advance.
Students or exchange visitors who are within 120 days of their start date of a valid programme and who have not been refused a visa within the last six months.
H and L visa renewals for applicants who are already working in the U.S and are returning to their jobs.
Before you apply for an emergency appointment, you must ensure that you have documentary evidence to prove the urgency. If it appears during the visa interview that you misrepresented the reasons for travel, such facts will be noted on your case file and may adversely influence the outcome of your visa application. Furthermore, if the consular officer determines that you do not have a genuine emergency -as defined above- then he/she will postpone your interview 90 days from the date you appeared under the emergency provision.
Travel for the purpose of attending weddings, assisting pregnant daughters, or attending graduation ceremonies do not qualify for emergency appointments. For such travel, please request an ordinary appointment well in advance.
The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi is currently undergoing a transition of our scheduling process. During this time, there may be difficulties in making emergency appointments for Non - Immigrant Visa interviews. We anticipate this process to take an additional 6 - 8 weeks to complete. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.
May the Almighty shower HIS choicest blessings on your sister.

I am sorry, I was misinformed about the emergency appointment.
It never used to be there but I checked the US embassy page and
they have introduced an emergency appointment system.
She would qualify for an emergency medical appointment only if she is very ill and you'd have to prove that the treatment she needs is not available in India or she needs an opinion from a US doctor if she is very ill.(in the form of an India doctor's letter) and that she could meet all the expenses for the treatment. She could show her property papers that she would sell.
DO NOT MIX "MEETING YOU" with "MEDICAL TREATMENT" as purpose of visit.
