  • Re-entry while caring for sick family member

I'm a US citizen and my wife is a resident with a N-400 pending (probably another 3-4 months...biometric appt letter lost in the mail). My in-laws are staying with us to care for my wife, who's going through a life threatening illness. They came on B2s and while still in status got a half-year extension, with new I-94s. We provided reams of documentation and doctor's letter stating my wife needs 24/7 care.

Now something unexpected came up and they may need to return to their home country for a short while, well within the validity of the new I-94. It's very tough to decide whether it's worth the risk of being refused re-entry, when my wife may need them here the most.

Just wondering if anyone has had similar experience or care to share any ideas.

I would not suggest to leave US and come back in very short duration. Immigration officer at the port of entry may raise the question and may refused the re-entry.
This is not a legal advice. Use at your own risk.
