B2 visa for spouse of H1B

Has anyone been in the following situation? Please share your experience.
Spouse of H1B visa holder applies for B2 visa post marriage because the visa appointment slot for H4 visa is available very late. The spouse travels to the US on B2 visa with a return ticket to India (before 6 months). By the time the spouse comes back, the H4 visa appointment slot becomes available. Then, the spouse applies for H4 visa.

It's not advisable. She can try for visitor visa. But in the application she needs to specify your status and visa officer may raise the same questions that why aren't you going on H4 visa?
