  • Not to a good time to visit ?

    Hello,
Couple of my friends applied for B2 Visa. The interviewing officer after asking all the necessary questions rejected their application stating that this is not the right time to visit New York since there is a lot of activity going on there. Their financial status is strong and are young entrepreneurs. What did the officer actually imply ? Could someone please help ?

I am not sure what the comment about New York was implying. There are multiple reasons for visa denial. Based on the applicant's information and information provided, the vo has to determine if the person applying appears to be an immigration risk. Without knowing any additional information about the people applying, other than what you stated, "they are young entrepreneurs with strong financial status", it sounds like they are coming here to do business, not coming for visiting and tourism which is what the B1/B2 visa is for.

This is my opinion and not legal advice. Use of this information is strictly at your own risk.

      Visa approved- experience

      Hello

Thanks for the advice. Visa has been approved for me and my friend. From my experience, It is very clear that you just need to be clear and honest with your answers. I am going to the states only for 12 days just to be there with my girl friend on her birthday who is doing her masters and also to see another friend of mine who just became a father. Four other friends of mine also applied because we all grew up in small town and it has always been a dream for them to visit America. Now since I had planned, they also wanted to join the trip because they are also best friends with my girl friend. They don't have any relatives also there and they are financially strong. Though they are financially strong to fund themselves they found it better to go as a group than going alone because they have some communication issues. Therefore, they were so interested in this trip cos they also believed they can visit US only when my gf is there cos she will be coming back to india after her course. But only mine and one of my friends visa got approved. it was denied for the rest. They all gave the same answer as their purpose of visit but couple of them made it look like they were not saying the truth and one friend did not give the answer about his income as stated in his DS-160. In fact, one of them was right next to me when he gave his interview and If I were the officer, I would have certainly denied his visa because of the way he answered the officer's questions. I was wondering why he was answering that way when he was actually saying the truth to the officer. I was thinking "dude !! you are saying the truth. why are you making it sound suspicious by being so nervous?". Worst part is that he got married only last year.love marriage and it took him 12 seconds to answer the date of his marriage. Even I knew the answer for it. It was because he got nervous and lost confidence. Its a learning experience for them. Anyway we all planned to go together and it was very unfortunate. The visa officer was probably denying the request earlier by mentioning that due to recent activities in NY they are being very strict in granting tourist visa. Bottom line is be honest, clear, polite and when you try to make your intent clear that you will come back home after your trip is over, just dont get nervous cos you are not lying.

This information is very true and I am glad you provided it. Many people are so nervous at their interviews that they basically cause the denial themselves by appearing to be hiding something or not telling the truth when in fact they are.

Congratulations on getting the visa, I hope you enjoy your time here in the U.S.
