Student visa for a 3 week course
[QUOTE=maguila;468324]I am assuming you mean applying for F-1 student visa while in your home country? You don't transfer B2 visa to F-1; you apply for an F-1 student visa at a US consulate to study in US for instance to obtain a degree or certificate. Short recreational study in US may qualify for B2 visa use. If you use your B2 visa, get accepted to a US university or college, for instance, it is possible to change from B2 to F-1 visa PROVIDED it is done correctly and well before I-94 card expires.
Hello, I have a similar query.
I currently hold a B1/B2 tourist visa and I have travelled to the US once on it and had stayed for 2 weeks. I have held an F1 visa in the past (8 years ago) and had returned to India after immediately after my graduation.
Right now I am taking a gap year from work and am looking to spend a few months with my brother and extended family in the US.
In this process, I also wanted to take a 3 week course screenwriting at NYU. I have applied and got admission into the course.
The university is insisting I apply for an F1 visa. However I am trying to get more information around this and have a few questions.
1. You said "short recreational study in US may qualify for B2 visa use". Can you please give me if any references are available that I can cite with the university authorities.
2. If I have to apply for an F1 visa, will my B2 visa be cancelled?
3. Is there any other provision to handle this case if the university insists that I need an F1 visa.
Please advise.
Thanks
Sameer
