  • Preparer of DS-160 form for Parents and Sign and Submit the form on their behalf?

    Hello Awesome Members,

I work as software developer in Seattle USA and I am sponsoring my parents (Mom and Dad) to visit me on B2-Visitor Visa. This website is like a gold mine for answers and helped me a lot in filling the DS-160 form for my Mom and Dad.

I am asking the following question because I got mixed recommendations and got confused.

    My Questions:

I have filled the DS-160 form for my Mom and Dad by coordinating with them. However, I have not signed and submitted it yet.

    a) I don't want to write the preparer of DS-160 form as myself. I want to specify that NO one helped them fill their form. Why I am doing this is because if I say that I prepared or helped them prepare the form, the VO might think that my parents know nothing about the details of the form as I have filled it and might reject their VISA.

Can I specify on their form that NO one helped them prepare the application? Or should I fill my information as preparer (any drawbacks in doing this?)

    b) If I filled NO in the preparer of the form, can I also sign and submit it? (I mean, do they track the IP addresses and if they do, they can find out that the application is submitted in USA?)

    Possible options for me:
option 1: Select No for preparer and submit it myself (from USA)
option 2: Put Preparer as My Details and then submit it myself (from USA)
option 3: Select No for preparer and then send the application details to my parents where they can access the application and click submit (from India)
option 4: Put Preparer as My Details and then send the application details to my parents where they can access the application and click submit (from India)

I will be highly thankful if you can reply to this in a timely manner.

    Thanks,
    Manish

    a. I would suggest be honest and write your name as a preparer. Please go through DS-160 form with your parents so they are aware with the information you have entered. Visa officer will not reject visa based on who filled the form. Sometimes parents are not computer savy, no internet access and don't want to make any mistakes in the form.

    b. Yes.

    Option 2.

    Please read similar thread,
