  • Visa Renewal

    Hi,
My mom's visitor visa expired in 2014 December and I forgot to renew it. Could anyone please help me with the below?

    1. Does my mom need to go in person to the embassy for the visitors visa interview or can she mail all the documents for the visitors visa?

    2. How long will it take to get an appointment in Chennai embassy for visitors visa if she has to go in person?

3.Will the passport sent my mail?

Any info. would be greatly helpful.

    Thanks in advance!

Here are the questions asked to determine whether your mom qualifies for dropbox or not, along with sample responses (Y = Yes; N = No).

    1. Are you (the visa applicant) under 14 years of age? N
    2. Are you (the visa applicant) 80 years of age or older? N
    3. Do you have a previous B-2 (Pleasure)? Y
    4. Was your most recent B-2 (Pleasure) visa issued on or after your 14th birthday? Y
    5. Have you ever been refused a B-2 (Pleasure) visa before? N
    6. Was your prior B-2 (Pleasure) annotated “Clearance Received” or “Department Authorization”? N
    7. Is your previous B-2 (Pleasure) visa still valid? N
    8. Did your previous B-2 (Pleasure) visa expire within the last 48 months? Y
    9. Was your most recent B-2 (Pleasure) visa issued in India after January 1, 2008? N
    10. Was your most recent B-2 (Pleasure) visa issued in India after August 1, 2004 but before January 2, 2008? Y

Congratulations! You qualify for our Interview Waiver Program. You will need to schedule an appointment to visit the Visa Application Center to have your photograph and fingerprints captured but do not need to schedule a visa interview at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate.

Click “Continue” to proceed with your application.

Step 1. Schedule an appointment at the Visa Application Center to have your photograph and fingerprints captured.
Step 2. Print your appointment letter and follow the instructions in it.

Note: Using the Interview Waiver Program does not guarantee visa issuance. The U.S. Embassy/Consulate retains the right to call an applicant in for an interview, if necessary.

BTW, was the visa issued to your mom B2 or B1/B2?

      Thanks for the answers!
Could you please confirm whether all the below questions are for the visa applicant (my mom)? My mom will be applying for B2 visa. Could you please send me the link to the Interview Waiver Program? I will check for the Chennai embassy. Thanks again!!

Yes, the questions are for the applicant, in this case, your mom. I don't have a link to the interview wavier program. create an account for your mom and start from there. You will be asked a series questions during the application process that will determine whether you qualify for the wavier program. Depending on when her previous visa was issued, you probably need to schedule an appointment for getting her ten-printed and photographed. After answering all the questions, you'll be told what needs to done.

I'm renewing my parents' visa and so I just copy-pasted the questions that were asked while I was preparing their application along with sample answers. The questionnaire that your mom will see should be very similar.
