  • Passport change Visitor Visa

My Dad had a valid passport with a valid US Tourist Visa. However the date of birth on the passport was incorrect so he applied for a change and a new Indian passport has been issued. My question is does the US visa also need to be modified and if so what is the process or can he just carry the old passport with the visa and the new passport? He is 75 years old so I am not sure if he does need to re apply if lock box can be used? Can someone provide some input?

He doesn't need to apply for new visa. He can carry both passport when he travels to US or any other country.
This is not a legal advice. Use at your own risk.

However what if the CBP Officer at the Port of Entry looks at the Visa page and sees DOB which is printed on the visa page does not match the new passport? Isn't that an issue. That is the problem and I don't see any documentation reflecting that

If this was a case where a passport expired and a new passport was issued, it is very common to travel with a new and old passport with the visa because the details haven't changed but in this case the reason the new passport was printed was due to a mistake in the DOB. Hence in this case is it still fine?

        To further answer your question:
There is no way for anyone to guarantee what any CBP officer at any airport is going to do or not do. It can be subjective. However, from what I understand, it should not be an issue.

Thanks I came across this official link

This section implies you need to get new visa because the personal details (DOB) have changed between the old and new passport, wouldn't you agree?

"Also, the name and other personal data must be the same in both passports (unless the name change was due to marriage), and both passports must be from the same country and of the same type (i.e., both tourist passports and both diplomatic passports)."
