  • Visitor visa I-94 stamped as B1

My mother has a 5 year multiple entry visa.

At the port of entry, the visa officer stamped her I-94 for 3 months and wrote B1 (not B2) on her I-94. She is visiting the US for the first time.

We are planning to file an extension for her for an additional 3 months.

Will this 'B1' on her I-94 cause any problem for the extension?

    Any help appreciated.

    Hi!

might be a error.....not too sure.

My friend's dad visited her and at the POE he was stamped B1 and for 3months. But her dad noticed it right there and mentioned to the officer that he had a return ticket for 6 months and requested a 6 months stay. Thats when the officer said"Oh sorry I used the wrong stamp" and stamped his I94 for 6 months. Donno if similar thing happened in your case too.

Better not to apply for an extension for 3 months visa. It's not error always. POE officers do sometimes give 3 months visa. Dont try to extend it.

Thanks for the quick response. Will applying form I-102 for correction of I-94 along with the extension application be any helpful. We really dont want to jeopardise my mother future visits to the US.

            got the i-94 corrected

I went to the local uscis office and got my mother's i-94 corrected. The new i-94 was issued for 6 months which is what we wanted in the first place. This forum has been pretty helpful. Thanks.
