  • Supporting documents for B2 VISA renewal

    Hi,
We are applying for VISA renewal for my mom in the 2nd week of January. Her old VISA expired in December 2016 and she was never out of status when she visited us over the last few years. My mom qualifies for the interview waiver program and she needs to just give finger prints. I am wondering what supporting documents I will need to provide from my side. In some forums, they have a long list of sponsor documents including pay slips, tax returns, bank statements, consulate letters, invitation letter, employment verification letter, etc. Are these documents actually necessary? My mom is still working and we will send her employment letter, par slips, NOC, bank statements, property documents, etc and I am thinking these should be enough but please confirm.

I do plan to provide a signed affidavit of support document. Would they need an original Affidavit of support with my signature or would a digital copy (scanned) be enough? Thanks for any suggestions in advance!

Experience has shown carrying anything is a waste of time and resources. COs do not look at salary letters, NOCs, W2s, etc. They acquire sufficient information from the ds160 and the interview.
In the rare.. 1 percent.. chance they need any additional information, COs ask it be emailed.

It's always good to have the document if visa officer asked so if one percent need should not result in rejection of visa. Sometime visa officer doesn't give chance to send the documents by e-mail. So in short there is no harm to carry or send.

Having experienced Consular environments.. COs do not deny visas (to those otherwise eligible) simply for lack of a document. The applicant will be issued a 221g with instructions and asked to email the required document. Again, such a thing is rare in a B1\B2 scenario.

Who wants to go through 221g hassle and after all that also needs to provide documents. So why don't keep the documents and if visa officer ask then provide it. Why are you so much against providing the documents? Visa officer didn't ask for documents to couple of applicant doesn't mean that becomes the rule.
